• Holistic music teaching
framework
Educational studies conclude that the most effective ways of
music learning is inter disciplinary- in other words, combining
the various components of music in the education process.
We adhere to this principle in all our lessons, combining Aural,
Creative expression/Composition, Performance, and Music
literacy and knowledge, to broaden and strengthen the musician’s
overall development. It is a great way to learn.
• FRIENDS- The Peer learning
environment
We have all heard, experienced, and understand the positive
(or unfortunate negative) impact that peers have on youth
learning and development.
At Funkey Music Factory we use this to our, and consequently,
your advantage.
Each lesson is a peer learning experience where children and
youth learn and participate together- in pairs and small group-learning
classes.
Every lesson (other than specific individual sessions) is a
small group lesson format, with a minimum of 4 students, and a
maximum of 8 (10 for keyboard)
Some specific personal and educational positives on the peer-learning
environment:
• Listening skills- directed listening is a skill in
music which when developed, grows the young musician very quickly.
If children
can learn to listen and make constructive judgments
on what they hear- of themselves and others, they can apply
this to their own
instrument and performance- therefore developing their
skills quicker than having nothing to relate to.
• At some stage the Funkey Music Factory band(s) will
develop, enabling interested parties to join with a much larger
group of
similar ability/age students.
•
Opportunities for further ensembles are encouraged…and
we are excited about the potential with this.
Above all, with this type of peer environment, we aim for a fun,
friendly and positive experience every time. We want your kids
to want to come back…it is no fun for us either if they
come kicking and screaming…!
